Volunteer chaperones

We are seeking volunteer chaperones to join our team looking after the children who participate in our Rutland Youth Choirs’ weekly rehearsals at All Saint’s Church, Oakham. Chaperones play an essential role in the safeguarding of the children, ensuring that they only leave rehearsals with known adults, challenging anyone unknown coming into the space, and taking an interest in the children’s wellbeing at rehearsals. There is also scope to help the children who benefit from a little extra support during rehearsals.

The chaperone role is a non-musical one; there is no need for applicants to have experience of singing or music-making, but they should be able to demonstrate enthusiasm and encouragement to the children. Inclusion and participation is extremely important to us, and our chaperones play a vital role helping us make the choir as accessible as possible.

Chaperones are asked to commit to one of two slots on Wednesday afternoons during choir term time; 3.50pm - 4.45pm (Young Voices), 4.40pm - 5.35pm (Junior Choir). We will put together a staffing rota before the start of a new term, taking holidays or non-available dates into account, so there is no obligation for any chaperone to be available for every rehearsal. New chaperones receive training which will cover child protection and safeguarding, first aid training, and familiarity with the rehearsal venue.

To register your interest as a volunteer chaperone, please email us here. We would be delighted to hear from you!
